Message from President Chanchi Lee

to hapa-na   on 12/29/2012

Dear members,

Happy Holidays and New Year !

My job as the president of HAPA-NA will end in two days. I sincerely thank you for your support, which gave me strength and encouragement to be president.

HAPA-NA is a small organization, but I believe it is an important one to carry out important missions from the Taiwanese American Hakka's standpoint. There is no other Hakka organization in US to collect political ideas to help to betterment of the Hakka political sense, which is particularly needed at this critical juncture in Taiwan. Yes, we still have a long way to go to improve and we should continue to persevere.

At the present time, Taiwan and Taiwanese are suffering badly under the KMT administration, Why? Because Taiwanese, for the longest period in Taiwan History, have no sense of political importance, do-not-care or do-not-want-to-get-involved are general attitudes, especially among our Hakka. So the consequence is Taiwanese will always be 2nd class citizens, that is some thing we, as an organization, should be concerned.

In the past few years, HAPA-NA has actively joined FAPA and 10 other Taiwanese American major organizations to engage in political and public affairs for Taiwan. HAPA-NA also has participated in some political activities in Taiwan, which received Taiwan-Hakka's attention, as an inspirational ally for Hakka political voice.

In addition, we have given out Taiwan Hakka Culture Awards every year to promote Hakka Culture Advancement and Language preservation.

I sincerely thank all board members' cooperation and advice, and all our HAPA-NA members' support. I hope we can keep doing better in the future.

Best wishes,
Chanchi
